Google Business Profiles are a free tool provided by Google to help businesses control how they appear in Google searches and Google Maps. Because there is no cost to create a Google Business Profile, I recommend that every business use this feature as a way to organically connect with your ideal clients.
As with social media, I also recommend that you update and optimize your Google Business Profile often. How often you may ask? It depends on your the nature of your business and if/how often you run promotions or add new products and services. Read on as I go into 5 helpful tips on how to best optimize your Google Business Profile.

Tip #1: Be sure to choose the most appropriate business category when initially setting up your Google Business account.
You are allowed to choose 1 primary business category and up to 9 secondary business categories.
Your primary category should be your business' main purpose (i.e. car dealer, divorce lawyer, daycare center etc.) and is the only category that can be seen online by customers. An example of a secondary category for "car dealer" is "Ford dealer."
CAUTION: Avoid using additional categories that your business doesn't offer. Keyword stuffing can lead to your account being suspended.
Tip #2: Reply to ALL business reviews left by customers.
77% of potential customers read reviews of local businesses before trying out services and products.
When replying to reviews, you increase your credibility and encourage future customers to leave reviews as well.
It’s also a great way to gauge any areas of your business that may need improvement.
Tip #3: Update your product section regularly.
Make sure to use high resolution photos to draw customers in.
Enabling call-to-action buttons (i.e. “Learn more” or “Order online”) can increase click-through rates and engagement.

Tip #4: Add business images.
Photos of the exterior of your business can help new customers find your company's physical location.
Interior photos can showcase your brand's aesthetics and help them to imagine them in your space or using your services.
Once again high resolution photos are key.
Tip #5: Publish posts to your profile.
Posts can include text, photos or videos and are visible to customers for 6 months before being archived.
Posts published under the “Updates” or “Overview” tab are Ava I already to customers on mobile while the “From the Owner” is only available on desktop.
Once again keyword stuffing your post is big no-no! Keep your posts short yet informative.
